About Us
Mossville Church Today

We come from all walks of life. There are children and people enjoying their golden years. There are teens and people nearing retirement. There are people in our 20's, 30's, 40's & 50's. Together we care and support each other in our struggles and in our joys. We are homemakers and teachers, nurses and laborers, students and food service workers, managers and financial planners, professionals and gardeners, technical workers and communicators, farmers and artists. We come from Mossville, Chillicothe, Peoria Heights, Peoria, Dunlap, Edelstein, Alta and Rome. Some of us have been here for a long time, while many of us have been in the area for a much shorter time. We have several visitors every weekend, and we are delighted when they choose to make this their church home. We live and work in harmony together, trusting each others' integrity and listening for the guidance of God in our midst. We are learning to use the Discernment and Concensus model of decision making.

We are passionate about taking our part in missions around the world and in our local communities. We support missionaries around the world through our United Methodist Church. Our special local outreach is being concentrated on Galena Park Nursing Home, OSF St. Clare.

We care about our neighbors, and welcome others to use our building in serving our community: Rainbow Corner Preschool, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Men's Dartball League, Mossville Little League Board, piano recitals, SEAPCO, and occasional use for school or township purposes.

We are a part of the Illinois Great Rivers Annual Conference, under the guidance of Bishop Sharon Brown Christopher. We are in the Illinois River District, Superintendent Rev. Melva Graham-England. We are pleased to offer our facilities for District and Conference gatherings and seminars. We host the meetings of the Illinois River District Committee on Ordained Ministry for the interviewing and support of new candidates for ministry.

Our worship gatherings are vital times where we experience God's love and hear the Good News. Our Sunday morning worship begins at 8:30 & 11:00 a.m. We have a variety of good musicians in our church, and we appreciate their different talents and tastes!

We care about children. We offer a nursery for each worship service and Sunday School, which is supervised by a trained adult. Jan Reed is our Nursery Supervisor on Sundays. Jan is a trained and licensed day care provider. She is both loving, gentle, competent persons. We are very blessed to have them on our staff. Children are also welcome in the sanctuary for any part or all of the worship service, if that is the preference of their parents.

We provide Sunday School classes for all ages from August through May at 9:45 a.m. each Sunday. Our teachers are experienced and dedicated to providing a loving and fun place for children to learn about Jesus. Adult classes are offered too on Sundays at 9:45 a.m. Our Youth meets each week and plans monthly outings to fun and exciting places.

Our Women's Ministry is called United Methodist Women. All women are invited to attend and enjoy programs on the 3rd Tuesday of most months at 7 p.m. There is a circle group called Lamplighters the 2nd Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The women sponsor mission work and local outreach to developmentally disabled adults.

Our Men's Ministry, the United Methodist Men, is open to all men of the area. Other activities for men include the Dartball League, Conference and District events, work projects, and Father and Child Banquet.
